Measuring Results

If you can measure it, you can manage it. There are a lot of things that happen in your organization every day. You cannot watch everything that people do. Nor, as a manager, would you want to. What do you do? As a manager, you:

• Track results
• Understand the results
• Use this information to do a better job

But, before you can track results, you must have a way to measure them. This chapter shows how to choose performance indicators and use them to solve problems and track progress. The examples include the indicators for the Jerusalem Water Undertaking Administration Department. The exercise shows how to begin to develop indicators for your organization.
